Stereogum is one of my favorite music blogs, and here's why: they asked a bunch of their music friends to create a song-by-song cover album for the most excellent 1997 Radiohead release OK Computer. Even better, you can get the entire album (individually or conveniently zipped) for FREE.
I *love*love*love* cover songs, especially when they come from the likes of Cold War Kids, Doveman, The Twilight Sad, and Vampire Weekend. Stereogum's tribute CD is professionally produced and there is even a little blurb from each band explaining their love for Radiohead and how they picked their song.
It's a very interesting interpretation of the music of one of the greatest bands in the world, and there isn't a stinker on the list. To convince you, below you'll find cover versions of "Lucky" from My Brightest Diamond and "Subterranean Lovesick Alien" from Mobius Band and their Thom Yorke equivalent. Actually, the Radiohead version "Lucky" is a solo Thradom playing at singer Neil Young's annual benefit concert for Bridge School, which "is an educational program dedicated to ensuring that children with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities." This is a quality cover compilation album, and deserves to be in your music collection. Go get it!
